Anime has established itself as part of modern pop culture and has even successfully made it’s way into Hollywood with a lot of the popular Anime titles being made into blockbuster films.

With mind blowing story lines and lovable characters, it is easy to see how someone can get lost for hours in the Anime universe. What makes things even better for Anime fans  is that all your favorite titles are now available on Kodi, providing you have the right addons.

I have personally gone through 19 Kodi Anime Addons to find out which ones are worth trying and which ones to avoid so you don’t have to waste your time. let’s look at the best Kodi anime addons and how you can install them.

Before We Start: If You Are Using Kodi To Stream Content Its Time You Use A VPN to Protect Yourself

PureVPN Benefits

Like it or not, your Internet Service Provider knows everything you do online including everything you watch on Kodi.

In recent years you have probably heard how big internet companies are slowing connection speed of people they suspect are streaming content from questionable sources. This is called throttling and it happens more often than you think.

To avoid this you can protect your privacy by encrypting all the internet traffic coming in and out of your house by using a VPN. This means they won’t be able to find out what you are doing online giving you that extra peace of mind every time you watch something on Kodi.

PureVPN Benefit List

I personally use PureVPN in my house as I am able to use in on 5 different devices at the same time. You can learn more about how a VPN can protect you by visiting the PureVPN website.

This is no different for the Kodi anime addons listed below. Even though during the time of testing they might of worked for me, this may not be the case one or two months from the time of testing. I will try my best to continuously update this post with working addons but if for some reason a particular addons doesn’t work for you just move on to the next one as it’s likely it has been taken down.

Now you have seen the quick list let’s look at how you can get these addons up and running on Kodi so you can start your anime adventure.

Setting Up  A File Source and Adding a Repository To Kodi

Note: If you already know how to add a File Source URL and set up a Kodi Repo then you can skip this tutorial and move on to the next section.

One final thing before we get started. In this guide you will come across a bunch of different Repositories URL’s, because each repository can be set up the same way, I am going to show the easiest method on how to add a Kodi source file and set up a repository.

You can use the same method to set up any repository listed in this article. In this example I am going to be setting up the PTOM repo which contains the SoggySandwich anime addon. Here is how to do it.

Step 1: Launch Kodi and click on the small gear icon on the top left hand side of the screen. This will bring you to the Kodi system page.

You can see how easy it is to set up a file source, download a repository and install an addon on Kodi. This is the only technique you need to use to install 99.9% of all Kodi addons in existence.

All you have to do to install any of the working Kodi Anime addons below is to follow all the same steps but just use the respective URL’s that I provide below. Ok it’s time we take a look at the best Kodi anime addons of 2019:

1. Ares Anime (Working)

Ares Anime Kodi Addon

I put Ares Anime at the number one spot not because it has the best anime selection but because most seasoned Kodi veterans would agree that when the Ares Team makes something it tends to stick around for a long time.

The Ares team are known for making reliable addons like the famous Ares Wizard which has existed since the Kodi dinosaur ages. So if you are looking for an addon that would work for more than a couple of months Ares Anime should definitely be at the top of your addon installation list.

You can find the Ares Anime addon in the Kodil repository. Even though the official Kodil link was taken down some time ago you can still install the repository using the Androidaba file source.

Repo URL: http://androidaba.com/addons/

2. WatchNixtoons (Working)

WatchNixtoons Image

If having a lot of options is your cup of tea, then WatchNixtoons is the addon you need. WatchNixtoons is among the few Kodi Anime addons that include an extensive list of both old and new releases.

The simple to use interface lets you choose from options such as Latest 50 releases, Dubbed or Subbed Anime, Cartoons and also Movies which leaves you spoilt for choice.

WatchNixtoons-Kodi-Addon

Even though I only had the chance to play around with this addon for ten minutes, I can easily see how you could spend hours on this addon with the unending supply of quality anime that it provides. WatchNixtoons is worth checking out if you are a die-hard Anime Fan looking to have everything at your fingertips.

Similar to Ares Anime, you can find this addon in Kodil Repository which can be downloaded using the Androidaba file source.

Repo URL: http://androidaba.com/addons/

3. SoggySandwich (Working)

SoggySandwich Kodi Addon

This addon’s name might make you think twice about installing it, but trust me, after using this addon once this is the only Sandwich that will satisfy your hunger for quality Anime.

Once you launch the addon and go into the anime section, you will see that the developer has sorted the content in categories that make finding what you intend to watch a breeze.

You can either choose to browse the most popular addons to see what is currently trending with the anime community or just cut to the chase by using search function to go straight to the content you desire.

As a bonus, this addon also allows you to watch Japanese TV drama series which a is cool extra feature to have for those times when you feel like immersing yourself in some Japanese TV culture.

PTOM Repo SoggySandwich

The SoggySandwich addon can be found in the PTOM Repo which can be downloaded from the dimitrology File Source.

Repo URL: http://dimitrology.com/repo/

4. 9Anime (Working)

9Anime Image

9Anime is an easy to use addon that includes recent releases of most of the popular anime titles. This is a reliable addon that has a good mix of popular Anime to choose From.

9Anime Kodi Addon

You can use both the Androidaba or the Lazy Kodi file source to set up this addon.

Repo URL:

http://androidaba.com/addons/

http://lazykodi.com/ (This File Source in packed with goodies and also Contains the Androidaba repo if you wanted to try something new)

5. Brettus Anime (Working)

Brettus Anime Repository

Whilst doing my research online, Brettus Anime’s name kept showing up in forums and after trying it out I could easily vouch for its reliability, but the selection it offers is abit disappointing, with only 36 different anime titles to choose from. Having said that, the main point to take home here is that it works, and in Kodi land that means everything.

Brettus Anime Kodi Addon

The Brettus repo can be installed using any of the two File Source URL’s below.

Repo URL:

https://wdsaddon.000webhostapp.com/repo/

https://brettus1987.000webhostapp.com/brettus-repo

6. Exodus Redux (Working)

Exodus Redux Installation Page Image

Is Exodus Redux really a Kodi Anime addon? Even with the answer being an obvious no, the reason why I included this addon is because you can find a few Anime gems if you know where to look. Exodus Redux is a newly developed fork of the legendary Exodus addon and it has to be the best Kodi movie and TV series addon out at the moment.

Exodus Redux Kodi Addon Image

Now yes you won’t be able to watch any anime series using this addon but you will be able to enjoy popular anime movies such as Akira, Howl’s Moving Castle and many more as shown in the image above.

Note: Once you install Exodus Redux you need to change two setting before it will start working. Firstly change the default scrapers to Lamda Scrapers, you can learn how to do this by following our Exodus Redux installation guide.

Exodus Redux Disable Trailers in Settings

Second of all make sure you disable trailers, if not you will constantly get an annoying pop up reminding you that you need an active IMDB account to use the addon when you really don’t.

To deactivate trailers launch the addon and go to Tools > Settings : Providers > Deactivate Trailer Option as illustrated in the image above.

7. Funimation (Working | Subscription Required)

Funimation Website

We are now entering Paid Subscription territory which has both pros and cons. The pros are that the addon will definitely work due to the developers constantly maintaining and updating the addon.

Plus the selection of anime will definitely be nothing short of perfect as content creators are constantly adding fresh anime to the site. The final big selling point of this addon is that you can find it in the official Kodi addon directory which means you won’t have to worry about the addon being taken down by Kodi.

Funimation Kodi Addon

The biggest Con is that you will need to pay to use the addon, which is a big turnoff for a lot of people using Kodi. Also Fumination is only Available in US and if you live outside of the US you can still access it but you must use a VPN and change your GEO location to the US.

To install the Fumination Anime addon just go into the Addon Browser > Install Addons From Repository > Kodi Add-on Repository.

8. Anime On Demand (Working | Subscription Needed)

Anime On Demand Website

Another great subscription based Anime addon is the German based Anime on Demand. With a good selection of content to choose from it’s definitely a great choice for the person who wants the peace of mind and doesn’t mind paying.

Just a point of caution, because this is a German site, I can’t confirm what language the Dubbed/Subbed Anime will be in so it’s important you research this before subscribing.

Anime On Demand Kodi Addon

Also, because the addon isn’t included in the official Kodi addons directory, which most paid subscriptions normally are, there is a risk that the addon could stop working in the future. If this happens you can always watch the content on their site directly.

You can find the Anime On Demand repository in the Androidaba File Source:

Repo URL: http://androidaba.com/addons/

9. Masterani (Works For Some People)

Masterani Kodi Addon

A lot of people are going to be upset that I put this addon at number eleven because if you were to google best Kodi anime addons online you will find a lot of people think Masterani deserves the top spot.

The reason why I personally can’t give Masterani a top spot on this list is because after 30 minutes of trying every possible method, and researching endless forums, I just couldn’t get it to work.

Masterani Not Working

So why did I include it with the working addons if it’s broken. Because if you refer to the Masterani reddit thread, you will find that only a few users are experiencing this problem and according to the developer it is caused by the Captcha function he recently added to the addon.

Masterani Reddit Thread

I have included a screenshot of the Reddit statement above or you can just go straight to the Masterani Reddit thread to learn more. So all I can say for this addon is give it a try and see if it works for you.

Magicality Kodi Repo

You can find this addon by installing the Magicality Repo which is located in the Wilson Magic file source.

Repo URL: https://wilson-magic.github.io/repo/

10. Chocolate Salty Balls (Working)

Chocolate Salty Balls Kodi Cartoon Addon

The Chocolate Salty Balls addon is the go to addon for American Cartoon Series lovers. Yes, I said cartoons and not anime, but don’t be too quick to dismiss this addon as it’s definitely good to have for whenever you feel like catching up on some good old American classics such as Southpark, or if you want to travel through different dimension with crazy grandpa Rick and his sidekick Morty.

This addon is available in the Kodil Repository which you can install via the Androiaba file source

Repo URL: http://androidaba.com/addons/

11. YouTube (Working)

Youtube Addon For Kodi

Before you say it, yes I know this isn’t a dedicated Kodi anime addon but let me explain why I put this here. YouTube brings us content from some of the best creators on the planet, this includes those who produce anime related content.

By having YouTube installed on Kodi you wont need to run to your PC, laptop or smart phone every time you want to watch an anime trailer or listen to what your favorite YouTuber thoughts on latest episode of anime you are watching. In addition to this there are thousands of top ten anime compilation video or cut scenes that are actually quiet fun to watch. also let’s be honest, in the end you will still end up watching cat videos.

The Youtube addon can be found in the official Kodi- Addon repository which is already a part of Kodi. You can find it by going to the addon browser, clicking on Install From Repository, and selecting the Kodi Add-on Repository

12. Cartoons On (Working | OLPair Required)

Cartoons On Installation Page

Cartoons On strikes a good balance for those looking for an addon that has both cartoons and anime. Now this addonis perfect for the casual anime fan but if you want something more than just a few dubbed series to choose from then I don’t personally recommend this addon. This is because of two major drawbacks that exist with this addon.

First of all is you need to pair this addon with Olpair.com which to be honest isn’t worth the extra work you have to put in to get it working. Secondly the amount of content that is actually anime is really limited. With these two points in mind and knowing that there are other addon’s out there that do a better job I don’t recommend you install this addon.

But if for some unknown reason you like refreshing OL-Pair every twenty minutes or you just want to try it out. You can find Cartoons On in the Kodil Repository.

Repo URL: http://androidaba.com/addons/

Why Does This List Include Kodi Addons That Don’t Work?

The reason for me to include these addons in the list is so that you don’t waste your time trying to see if they work because believe me I have tried each and every one of them.

Below are the Kodi Anime addons that were not working at the time of testing. Most of them gave me the Check Kodi Error Log message the others just didn’t show any links

Just to add a quick tip that I think is useful and will save you a lot of time in the future when trying to find out whether an addon works or not. Once you find an addon you like, just copy and paste the Repo URL they give you into the google URL address bar. If the Repo is still up (working) then you will see folders that contain addons etc.

Now if you try the same thing with a repo that has been taken down or deactivated you will either get a blank page, a few non related files, or if you’re lucky the web page will be down. If any of these come up don’t even bother setting up the file source because you will end up disappointed, trust me.

13. KissAnime (Not Working)

Kiss Anime Kodi Addon

This was the addon that started it all. KissAnime was the best addon for watching Anime when Kodi first started. It was taken down sometime in 2017 and has never recovered since.

Repo URL: http://srp.nu

14. Verdict (Not Working)

Verdict Kodi Addon

Many online guides list Verdict as a good addon to watch anime but after testing I can confirm that the File Source is empty.

15. AnimeGo (Not Working)

19. Crunchy Roll (Not Working)

Crunchy Roll Website

Anyone who spends 10 minutes on YouTube will soon come across a Crunchy Roll sponsored video. You could argue that they are the best in the game and you would probably be right. In recent years Crunchy Roll has successfully become Americas no 1 Anime paid subscription service.

Now there was a time when you could enjoy Crunchy Roll on Kodi but unfortunately those times are long gone as Kodi has removed it from the official Kodi Repo as shown in the image below.

Crunchy Roll Not Working Kodi

There you have it, the complete list of best Kodi Anime addons of 2019. When I was compiling this list I was abit disappointed after discovering how many broken addons are actually still out there.

This quickly changed when I realized that the few that are still working are enough to fulfill anyone’s Anime cravings.

On a final note I just want to say that I wrote this guide in January 2019 and the addons I specify as working were fully functional at the time of testing. Even though I plan to update this post every few weeks, if you do find that an addon that isn’t working I apologize in advance and suggest you trying the any of the other remaining addons.

If none of them are working for you then its highly likely either you need to hard reset your Kodi, or you probably need to consider using a VPN.

Hope you enjoyed this guide and please do feel free to share it to all of your anime watching friends and please check out all the other great guides, tutorials and tips we have on this site.
